Scorpius is a shoot 'em up game by Arxe, presented for the first time on the November 1992 Archimedes World cover disk. This game is a versatile 2D arcade shooter with smooth animation, great graphics and sound!

Review
ScorpiusSTORY / GAMEPLAY
You control your mighty ship to fight a vast array of aliens and kill everything that moves until you reach the end-level big one. As in every good arcade shooter (like R-Type or Saint Dragon) you can hold down the fire button to power up your main weapon and unleash a furious fire ball or hammer the keyboard to rapidly fire small rounds towards the enemies. You are called to fly through closing gaps, lightning-storms and hoards of projectiles coming at you from all directions! Note that the game is quite hard! The full game was never released and Arxe later changed their projects. Nevertheless, this demo shows the first level of what would have been a truly superb side scrolling shoot'em'up with brilliant graphics, tons of enemies to blast at a whole host of power-ups to boot. The game area is wide enough since you can also move up and down a bit -the demo's single level is big enough to keep you playing for quite some time.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
As already said, the graphics are brilliant with great colors and lots of huge, smoothly animated sprites on screen! There is also parallax scrolling involved at the background scenery. As far as the sound, the game has some catchy in-game tunes and great sound effects. Scorpius is a truly great shooter and it's too bad it wasn't completed, for sure.
